In these past weeks I have learned that there are many forms of rhetorical styles. Eveything around us has its own rhetorical style. Just like there are many different discourses that we use, we also use different rhetorical styles when we communicate with others. Even though we have been taught to use different forms of rhetorical styles all of our life, I have never paid any attention to them until now that I’m
taking this class. We have been taught to always check how our writing style
since high school but I never understood the true meaning of what that meant. None
of my teachers in high school ever explained about the different rhetorical
styles, so when we started to talk about it in English 214 it was very shocking
to me.
Going back to paper 2, it was kind of hard at first because I
had no idea what we had to do. But it helped me understand that there are many
ways you can send the same message but using different rhetorical styles to do
so. Each style is set to serve a certain group of audience and help them
understand what the writer wants them to get out of a story.
This goes also plays a huge role in what major you are going
into. Each major has their own specific rhetorical style that focuses only to
those that are in the major or interested in the major. Other that are not in
it, will find it hard to understand because they won’t be used to that writing
style. I use won’t understand some ones paper who is in the business major just
because it’s something that I’m not interested in or ever learned about, same
thing goes to someone outside of my major.
During these past weeks I realized that it’s okay to have
different rhetorical styles and that teachers just have to understand that not everyone
is going to be able to understand all of the different discourses. Everyone will
always have different interpretations of certain writing and some will find it
hard to understand, but taking this class it has helped me to be able to figure
out in depth the rhetorical styles of papers so that I can understand them
better. At the end of the day we will have to learn how to read all sorts of
different rhetorical styles if we want to have a better understanding of
different discourses.
