Knowledge Gained

Man this class /professor is super cool. In simple terms. It seems although English class has been taken to a much more critical level. Allowing us the students to take ownership of what we write and use it to it's full advantage. Understanding that communication and writing are so powerful makes a difference in the way you value writing. I've learned to never really hate or try to write like someone else. I am who I am and I am going to write differently the way I communicate with people is different. All I DO IS different. I've learned to value my experiences and to just simply become more aware. As if my third eye opens at 9:10 am.

For starters before I enrolled in English 214 I never really analyzed anything I read. And discovered their hidden narratives. I didn't think much of it. Till I realized invisible  narratives  are not only  throughout writing but also advertisements and espiaclly the media. Spreading messages to the world.

While becoming more aware of the narratives I see in and study on a everyday basis. It was interesting to see the standards that my majors discourse  has for itself. Never would I have thought it would be so difficult to read. See although  I don't fully know what I want to do with my life I know I want ART to be a part of it. Not splatters on the wall kind of ART. But ART that represents struggle, community, and a seance of home. THATS WHAT I WANT TO DO.

Anyways I would have never thought I would go to college and major in Art let alone analyze  it's discourse. But as I did I realized how each piece of writing was different. And the takes the authors/professors/artists had on ART varried. My article was bomb! It highlighted duos from Latin America that shared similar interestes in political art. They all created are with a message of awareness. Besides the content. The writing within itself was difficult to read. The way he described their art and the way he described the metaphors behind the pieces seemed to be on a whole other level. But once I read the pieces I would say to myself "oh so they basically make furniture out of recycled materials." Which by the way helped me when I was writing my fable. But also makes me realize the standards the carrier I want to go into has set up for me. Gives me a idea of what I will be going into in my future. But I wish there was no such thing as standards I want to write however I want. I mean why can't people do that? Why is is wrong? When everyone is their own individual. I just don't get it, I want to be a blue to produce writing that my whole family and community can understand. Making information more accessible to them. Espically my mother who's second Language is English and she constantly struggles with writing and reading in English. If I would have given her my article of my disapline should would have not been able to undertand it. There needs to be alternatives.

  1. I definitely agree with you that having a set standard for writing in college only hinders our ability to express ourselves. I really like the way that you express yourself in this blog post. It does not feel very academic and the way you structure your points is very organized. I feel that your blog post here feels less controlled by academic writing and I really like it as it gives me a fresh air from all the academic writing I have been reading. The way you structured your blog post in a dialogue based on your own voice makes your message much stronger as I can feel your feelings of this issue. The only problem I see is that your blog post does not have 600 words but other than that you did a great job.

  2. I agree with you too because, this english class is very different to others, I feel that in this class we can express what we really think about all, and also the teacher teaches to be a person more critical and how we can criticizing without hurt to another people.

  3. You know i nerver thought of this class as my thir eye, like you. You are right though, our invisable thir eye opens up when our class starts. Also, like you say I really did not pay too much attention to the ads on the streets or the billboards on the freeways. But all of this are trying to make us do something , like control our minds and bodies. We all embrase all this invisable narratives in our every day activities, we are victims of the media and society.

  4. I agree with you and feel like this class has changed the way we see and think about all the invisible narratives that before this class we would had never payed any attention to. You did a good job expressing how you felt about the way the article of you major was structured and how difficult it was to read it. I also have parents that don't read or understand english that well, so reading articles like those would be simply impossible for them.
