The Christian Bible and Women

Have you ever stopped for a moment and think how the Christian Bible describes women differently from men?

First, Christianity is the most followed religion on the United States. Some people were introduced into religion by their parents at an early age, other found their own way.  But, some of the reasons why people follow this religion are because of the myth that God is their savior and creator.  Also, that by worshiping a God or Creator they will have a place in heaven.

The Bible tells stories about religious ancestors that followed Gods will. Also, it teaches people how they are supposed to live their lives, and follow the rules that the Holy Bible states that is the word of God. What the believers do not know is that the Bible degrade women in all kinds of ways.

For example, one of the most popular stories in the Bible is Adam and Eve. The first two humans God created in Earth.  God created Adam in his image, and from his rib he created Eve to be his companion on Earth.

At, first many people do not see anything bad about it. Some people might say “Oh God created Adam first and then Even so he wouldn’t be alone in this world. But in real life who gives birth to other humans? Women! So, the question is why didn’t God created Eve first and then Adam? The answer is simple. God created Adam to make him superior to Eve, and from that day on men was superior.

Another example is the way families are portrait in the Bible. Men are supposed to be the ones who work to support their family. Also, men are strong to protect their wife and children. In the other hand, for women is are portrait as weak. They are supposed to stay home to cook, clean, and take care of the children.

Then again, at first some of you will say “There is nothing wrong with that”. But, the invisible narrative is that women in the Bible are portrayed as worthless and submissive to men which is the same as degrading.

These were just two of the many ways the Christian Bible degrade women. But these two ways have been taught to children generation after generation. And, they go with that mentality that they are better than women.

I am one of those children who were introduced to religion at an early age by my grandparents. I would say I was a victim, because I was little. I did not know what I was learning. But now that I am a young woman I realized and understood that the Bible degrade women in all angles.

This made me think, “How am I supposed to be successful on day, if the Bible have already told me I am supposed stay athome, cook, take care of the children, and support my husband?”  But this is not the life I want for myself.
I don’t want to be one of those women who are like that because they have followed the word of God. Just by saying this I am considers a sinner, but that is okay with me because I don’t believe in any religion.

But sometimes I stopped and think for a minute “How would this society or world be without any kind of religions” Would women be equal as men? Would there be even roles? You should take a moment and imagine how this world would be without a religion. If we were given the chance to pick to have religion or not what would you pick?

  1. Religion is the number one reason women self-suppress. Interesting post.

  2. I really liked how you integrated your personal experience with religion in this invisible narrative. You structured it very well and it flows very well. I like how you describe the hierarchy between Adam and Eve. Also I really liked your examples using images as this gives a better picture of how women are being degraded.

  3. I liked how you said your personal experience with religion. I think you are right that women get degraded on the Bible. I respect your decision if you don't believe in God is cool there are a lot of people that believe the same as you.
