Penalty on Ray Rice
Seven months ago, exactly
February 15th, Ray Rice was allegedly arguing with his current wife,
Janay Palmer, and at the end of this night changed Ray Rice football career and
his life. The typical question that is
currently being asked and is really causing a lot of commotion is, why did the
NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, only suspend Ray Rice two games in the season
after being arrested of domestic violence on the night of February 15th?

Now the video that was recently released by TMZ that actually shows evidence of Ray Rice knocking out his wife is awful. After this video was released, Roger Goodell then took initiative to suspend Ray Rice indefinitely and they are looking to ban him from the NFL. Which is ridiculous because Goodell already had the chance to give Rice the same punishment when it actually happened. Roger Goodell should have acted thoroughly when this happened, simply because it is unfair for the other NFL players that are penalized of a suspension of a full season with a similar or even lower act case.
Now I don’t condone domestic
violence but, Ray Rice is being treated unfairly. Ray Rice met with Roger Goodell after the incident and gave him his side of thestory then Goodell just suspends Rice for two games in the NFL regular season.
So TMZ releases the video of Ray Rice and now Goodell acts on it? This is
simply not just for Ray Rice because he was already arrested for domestic violence
and was sitting in Roger Goodell’s office the next day or so.
Though Roger Goodell only takesinitiative after the video of Ray Rice is released.the reason why he doesthis is obvious for the video is seen by millions of people and the name of the NFL is damaged by that. But, Goodell has already made his decision on suspending
Rice for two games of the regular season by just knowing that he has a charge
for domestic violence. Goodell should not need a video evidence to determine
whether or not Ray Rice should be banned from the NFL seven months later.
Domestic violence is a very serious issue and Goodell has to take that into
serious consideration. Goodell has to take action right then and there, rather
than putting this issue on hold.
This is not the first case of
domestic violence of NFL players, a much recent case happened to a player from
my own city, Ray McDonald. However, his case is not as big as Ray Rice because
not that many people know Ray McDonald and there wasn't video evidence. But,
that still does not change the fact that this shouldn't be looked over.
Domestic violence is domestic violence, no ifs, ands, or buts. Yes, there is
pressure on the San Francisco 49ers to either cut Ray McDonald or keep him
because the Baltimore Ravens cut Ray Rice after the video as well.

While domestic violence is not a
two day suspension issue,
Roger Goodell has suspended multiple players entire seasons for marijuana uses,
DUI, and etc. Now I’m not saying
that these are not serious issues but, domestic violence should be treated the
same way. I understand that Roger Goodell cares about the reputation of the NFL
however the issue of what is happening should be settled right away and not be
played around with or be let alone . It is simply a disgrace that Goodell
needed a video for Rice’s offense.
Let alone that Ray Rice was a
fantastic football player and pretty sure he is a great guy outside the field
nonetheless domestic violence is not tolerated, I just want to make that clear.
I am just arguing that it isn't fair for Goodell to know that Rice is arrested
for domestic violence and just basically brushes it off. And when other people
in the league are being suspended entire seasons for being caught with
marijuana.
With Goodell’s action as the NFL
commissioner, he should be setting examples for the other players in the
league. After the incident happened with Ray Rice, Goodell should have acted immediately
to suspend Rice for a season rather than two games. With the decisions that
Goodell has made in the past seasons, his job as a commissioner should be
terminated.
