The problem of obesity among youth.
I think that obesity has really affected a majority of people in the United States. Many of the people want to eat junk food more than healthy vegetarian food. The worse thing is that they influence their kids to eat unhealthy as well without knowing the consequences that could come. As a big society we should try to warn people more about the consequences that you get by eating junk food and as well talk of the benefits about eating healthy.
In many states of the United States the percentage of obese people have increased in a majority. Some of the main ways that people get affected by obesity is that they don’t have the enough resources in their neighborhood. Many of the people that have been affected by obesity live in a neighborhood that the only restaurants and corner stores that you see around is only full of junk food. The low income families don’t have a supermarket that could provide them with some fruits and vegetables, but in a way they don’t have another choice than to eat at the junk food restaurants near them so they can have some food in their stomach.
Obesity is very common inside the United States that it has not only affected teenagers bu parents as well have been affected. As research indicates, “More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese. Non-Hispanic blacks have the highest age - adjusted rates of obesity (47.8%), followed by Hispanics (42.5%), non-Hispanic whites (32.6%), and non-Hispanic Asians (10.8%)”. The rates show that the people of color have been affected the most by obesity but they don’t show the percentage of white people that have been affected by obesity. As well the research shows, “Higher income women are less likely to have obesity than low income women”. The higher income women have the highest chance of buying the food that they think is more healthy and fit for them because they have high amount of money but on the other hand the low income women don’t have the enough money and therefore they eat junk food causing some of them to get obese. Some students from my class might say that the neighborhood that you live in and the less resources that you have doesn’t relate to obesity. I can say that what they are trying to say is not true because when you live in a low resource and income neighborhood you don’t have the enough good food restaurants. All they have around of their neighborhood is fast food restaurants and that’s the enough thing they could afford because they don’t have enough money and as well they can’t be able to buy healthy food for their family because there is not a supermarket enough.
Something that everyone should be looking out for is the different health problems that obesity can give you. One of the problems that obesity causes is a stroke. As the research states, “If you have a clot blood and is close to your brain, it can block the flow of blood and oxygen to your brain and cause a stroke”. The main thing that can make some people have stroke risk is if the body mass increases. As well the research indicates, “In type 2 diabetes, the body cells don’t use insulin properly. At first, the body reacts by making more insulin. Over time, however, the body can’t make enough insulin to control its blood sugar level”. This means that the major health problem is diabetes type 2 because it can kill you and your body won’t be able to make more insulin in order to protect you.
The peoples age as well have a big influence for the obesity. As for now the middle aged adults have been affected by obesity more. As the research states, “Obesity is higher among middle age adults, 40-59 years old (39.5%) than among younger adults, age 20-39 (30.3%) or adults over 60 or above (35.4%) adults”. In a way I can notice that the adults that are around the 40 years of life have a higher percentage of obesity. But the teenagers around 20 years are not that far and the percentage can still increase for them. Lastly, there is a small relationship between education and obesity. As the research indicates, “There is no significant relationship between obesity and education among men. Among women, however, there is a trend - those with college degrees are less likely to have obesity compared with less educated women”. The men population doesn’t show relation between education and obesity but the women population does, and this shows that the women that have the chances of going to college and do a career have a good chance of avoiding obesity.
As a kid I have faced some problem for obesity. I have managed myself by working out and eating a lot. The only restaurants around the neighborhood I live in are fast food restaurants and Mexican and Latino restaurants. Sometimes my dad would ask me, “Why do you eat a lot?” and sometimes I need to answer, “I am always hungry but don’t worry I work out in order to keep in shape”. As a big brother now I am keeping up with a good diet in order to be healthy but as well I am teaching my little brother to balance his food. I take him out once a week to eat fast food and the other days I make him eat some fruits and salads. I don’t want obesity to affect him and other people in the world.
In a community as a whole I think we should warn people about the consequences of obesity. We should let them all know clearly the different races with their respective percentages that are affected by obesity. As well, we should warn everyone about the different health problems that that obesity can cause you. Lastly, we can tell the women that are in high school to go to college and in a way it can help avoid obesity and make her parents proud because of the hard work and career they are following. If we warn everyone about the problems of obesity, I am pretty sure that the obesity percentages in the U.S. can drop highly.
