I have to say, ever since we were introduced to invisible narratives, I became a thinker. It's a little confusing because I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. As for Jersey Shore, or any other crazy reality television show, I'm sure we all knew something wasn't right there, from the very beginning. Although, since the invisible narrative discussion, I began to analyze every single thing in the show. It was almost scary how differently I viewed those shows as, watching them with a different mindset. I definitely enjoyed those shows, but seeing those different shows now, I'm not sure how to enjoy them anymore. I'll still watch them though, OF COURSE.Monday, October 13, 2014
The Ghost Of The Invisible Narratives
So far this class was not what I expected. The readings are engaging, the writing assignment topics are interesting, I like the blogging, and the discussions in class are extremely eye-opening. I would have to say my favorite thing we have touched upon in class has to be the concept of invisible narratives. Yes we all knew about stereotypes, but we only noticed the obvious ones if we weren't much of thinkers. The one example in class that I think I can speak for everyone on is the "looters vs. finding" articles. It's kind of like learning about anything new. once you learn about it, you start to see it everywhere. As pointed out in class, no one would have ever noticed the invisible narrative of racism there if those two articles weren't viewed together. So whoever wrote that article about the comparison of those two newspaper articles were very consumed into invisible narratives.

I agree with you that after learning about invisible narratives that even I have started to think and doubt about everything I see. Invisible narratives is a very interesting concept and I find it very fun to try and decipher the meanings that I see everyday. Your blog post has some very nice pictures and is also written very clearly with all the points flowing nicely together. Your ideas are very interesting. The only problem is that your blog post doesn`t have 600 words but other than that your blog post looks great.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you guys because now I don't know if a science book there not have invisible narratives, if this was write without sexism, racial discrimination or stereotypes; now is very difficult for me to enjoy a book, readings or tv shows.
ReplyDeleteMan, whoever wrote the article on Yahoo is a total racist, and ignorant person. Who the hell you are going to make someone look bad and less just by the color of their skin.. Even though the United States does not have slavery and that kind of things it still has invisable narravites that are so much alike. I really hated how they make white people look better when there was another family who happed to be black but look bad. The ppower of words is huge, it can either hurt us or help us it is really up to the person who is using it
